Biography
I began DJ ing in the late 80s based in Liverpool (although originally from Manchester). Early stints on pirate radio, and small one off club nights coupled with monthly mix tapes released through 3 Beat records in Liverpool led to my first residency at Heaven in Liverpool, promoted by our firm, Grin Up North.

Soon I was travelling across the North West of England with guest spots at Park Hall, Wigan Pier, Jooce in Blackpool alongside the likes of Sasha and Carl Cox, and residencies at Bowlers in Manchester with DJ Welly (top lad and DJ despite being a red..) and over into Yorkshire with events such as Joy at Leeds University with the one, the only Rob Tissera, and clubs like the Gallery and Back to Basics.

Soon I was travelling here there and everywhere, building up large followings in Scotland and Northern Ireland, a place where the scene was booming despite, or maybe in reaction to the troubles of the time.

Through the years, Ive been lucky enough to work in places far and wide, playing in Ibiza, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy and America at spectacular and sometimes truly bizarre events.

Throughout this period in the UK, the warehouse parties had moved outside and become free-parties as clubbers from the cities combined forces with the travelling community leading to some truly massive and legendary free parties, none more so than Castle Moreton where 25,000 ravers danced for a week in the back yard of the governments summer homes. I enjoyed this scene and what it stood for. Not sure the Tories did though!

Working with the legendary soundsystem DIY from Nottingham, it was about reclaiming the parties for the music and the people. This scene was in stark contrast to the emergence of superclubs and superstar DJs who seemed to revel in the cult of personality and becoming more important than the actual music they were supposed to be playing.

Everything changes and evolves with time, clamp-downs on such gatherings through the Criminal Justice Bill, and changes in taste have led to more diversity in direction and scenery. Nostalgia is on the rise as people seek the heady innocence of those times not least for the raw tunes that lifted people week after week, year after year. Ive been involved all through this process, appearing in virtually any place there are a pair of decks, still holding true to the values and excitement I hold dear. Never happier than when in a dark corner watching the crowd Im driving rip up the dance floor, I always have a ball whether playing new or old tunes. Its a cliche to say I love the music so I won’t.

The main thing is giving people a good time wherever they may be and when Im playing, I always want people to remember the first record, and the last one, and in between to just let themselves go.. and at the end, be left wondering what the f*ck happened there?…
